On Belonging

She went on that long-awaited vacation with her friends. Friends—she hesitated even calling them that. One was twenty years younger. The other, five or six. Close enough to feel familiar. Far enough to feel the difference. During the elephant sanctuary tour, the youngest—laughed and said casually, almost absent-mindedly, “Hey, the staff asked me if your mom had come out of the bathroom.” He meant it lightly. He meant no harm. But time slowed anyway. The words stretched, replayed themselves, settled somewhere heavy. A throwaway joke turned into something else entirely—a quiet confirmation of what she hadn’t voiced: she didn’t belong here. Not quite. She withdrew after that. Not dramatically. Just subtly. Fewer words. Less presence. Her body folding inward as if trying to take up less space. At lunch, she tried again. She brought it up, hoping the older of the two would do what friends do—brush it off, defend her, call it stupid. Instead, he said, almost thoughtfully, “That could be...

What Type of Video Editors Should Take the Adobe Premiere Pro® Certification Exams?

Each of the Adobe Premiere Pro® certifications and corresponding exams are targeted towards video editors. The four available exams are designed to validate either beginner Premiere Pro® skills or to recertify skills of editors who have previous experience working with Premiere Pro®. The Adobe Premiere Pro® CS5 ACE certification exam and the Adobe Premiere Pro® CS6 ACE certification exam will test an editor's ability to edit in a timeline-based non-linear editing environment. Professionals wishing to pass either exam will need to be able to acquire media, edit footage, and produce output. These exams allow video editors to establish their careers by providing them with certifications that can prove their editing skills to potential employers. For video editors who have already proven their editing skills, the Adobe Premiere® Pro CS5 Recertification exam or the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Recertification exam are available. Video editors must have earned a previous Premiere P...
In my universe beats one heart - mine alone, there exists one mind - mine alone. Yet, my universe is connected with yours and a thousand others.. and the ripples of your mind and heart will certainly create a stir in mine. When the ripples stir in harmony, its called music. When it dosent, its mere cacaphony. I say.. lets make some music!
i wonder what Americans need more.. a divine intervention to calm the unsettled heads or a lawful restriction on the possession of the arms act. This is in the light of the recent Connecticut killings of school personnel and kidgarten children. Insane isnt it? and an exactly similar incident happened a few days earlier too, in some other state of the united states of India and in both cases the perpetrators were otherwise "regular"blokes. the kind that would probably go for a run in the morning as much are his chances of having a "normal" Monday morning. in effect, 2 different crimes, 2 highly deviant behavior, 1 common personality type. So, this makes me think that maybe, there is a deep sense of detachment in the American society and no, Christmas dinners are not the solution. As the needs of touch & smell are fast dissapearing from the diaspora of social interactions, and Facebook, Twitter & Whatsapp are replacing a friendly pat on the back or the ...

Durga Puja 2011

these are a few of my favorite things: waking up to the beat of the dhak in the morning, watching the entire process of the morning anjali, the familiar smell of the afternoon bhog, sweating uncontrollably in the traffic, the blaring of horns, and the multitude of cars, and even more the count of faces and feets on the streets, the sound of laughter, prayers, conversations, and going to sleep looking at the fairy lights, the light stands, the bulbs, the light lined buildings, and the lovely glow around. and then comes, a crimson red goodbye, a floating mirror on the water, a few tears, and a whole new year to look forward to.. aashche bochor aabar hobe !!
Make your passion the only thing you have ..dont ask why now, and you wont have to ask why later.

Another Day in the life of Amelia..

My current pair is bulbous at the hips - read: extremely lose, torn at the non-sexy spots, and unflatteringly rolled up at the ankles. i wear that with my shoes which are the not-so-bad gladiators but the ugly overtakes the not-so-bad at making first impressions. so, in a desperate attempt to get myself a new pair, i went jeans shopping. Now, that may be the most obvious effort for most of , and i bet a pleasurable one too, For me; it is that one event which repeats itself once every three years. You can safely estimate that a decade of styles emerge, hit it or miss it, during three years of time, and i, locked up in isolation are always detained from whats in and whats out - except that, it sounded like it it's me.. WHY, well for starters, i couldnt be bothered about stocking up my wardrobe... when i need stuff, i go out and buy that. sometimes, i procrastinate that 'need' but how would a fashion sense emerge if people did not look at current assets differently. thats how ...

A note to save - for my comrades :)

Hi friends, me thought of a simple idea for those who wat to start saving some dough.. but can never end up doing it, just like me. my research tells me that about 30% of my income goes into forgettable stuff such as paying the rickguy a little extra something, buying small sweets, a bottle of water, an adhoc taxi ride to an immensely small distance [because i am wearing a certain kind of tabooed short skirt typa thing/maybe a sari or a gown too :)..] etc etc etc. and the tendency to spend on these small unneccessary things increases because we like the thin shafts of paper tucked in our purses and pockets. how covienient they are.. those sheets of notes.. so neatly tucked away. some like it rough...the wrinkles on an ageing fifty rupee note.. the crisp shine of a hundred...the warmth of them from an atm machine..freshly baked! :) i personally love the arrogance of a five hundred note. it's picky about its takers!..hmm ok now back to the idea! the idea is to shift to its metal sist...

Shall we shop?

i reached for the shaving razor in the shower - i was not one for painful and long waxing sessions at the parlor; Damn! i had thrown it away last night because that was the only way i'd be forced to buy another one, and i had not bought a new one! i didn't want to lose sleep over it so i let it pass. i tried to think that, today was a Saturday - time to kiss away my sexy and fitted formals and say hi to my sexy and fitted casuals. Unfortunately, they all showed my "needs to be waxed" common areas. I patted myself on my back at the outfit i chose in my head - Jeans, fitted jacket, gladiator chappals. This was quite unlike my weekend clothing. My boyfriend will surely notice the change and we'll have a good laugh about my quirks. but that was replaced by another thought immediately after. a year back, this is how i'd dress on Saturdays. i'd mix and match things my formals and semi formals to create a funky look. now i actually buy clothes especially for the ...

Shower thought!

creativity is not about weirdness or the licence to bewilder in the name of awe and inspiration. But then again, creativity is personal and individualistic too. Which brings me to the thought that we have come to an age now where everyone is not just aware and educated but innovative too. thus, words like beauty, creativity, ugly, virtues, vices, can be and should be abolished from the dictionary. Their meanings don't hold true or never did, and on second thoughts...who is anyone to define perspectives to me~

Eureka!

You know Boyfriend, someone asked me today if I wanted to make love to them one time, one last time, for old times sake, for all his worries and you know what I said.. What you ask isn’t mine to give..it’s someone’s faith in me. And I have never seen anyone so defenseless.. So tell me, does the body win or the spirit? Does the orgasm win or peace? does the flesh win or the soul? i think it is neither. Love wins..the kind we have ...

Did you win?

there is nothing wrong in being in the rat race. the more ahead you go, the more you get alone and the more you get alone, you realise that the race was against you and you won! so race at a pace that you dont have to be alone for the most part. take your time, listen to those who care about you, learn to respect elders, understand the rules, break some of them sometimes and make friends you can have fun with while you mend those errors, make some more friends who live by the rules, make memories, collect stories, borrow knowledge, get and give all the love you can,... so that when you get ahead...you arent alone..

This was Once upon a time

I am sitting here crying for a fault that ain't mine I'd much rather be looking down from a cliff slowly dying I pause to remember, looking at you through a hole in the glass your face so brightly lit the painted smiles the loving juveniles I can hear the glasses clink the necklines dropping the skirts rising the smiles turning into grins the wishes escalating I don't think anyone there knows that you are only pretending that behind the warm welcome you are only loathing I can see you trying hard to tell me to leave, to wish me away, to ask me to stop crying, trying, loving.. now I say, I give you up to the world that aches for a piece of you I will give it all I have to see you through you say you want freedom from the clutches of glum I put it on the table for you Gave you my share of happiness too but don't you see you are all that I have why do you want that too?

Talk to her...

So you and your woman are in sync now and now is the time to go beyond the physical appeal. now is the time to get her know her as a person. to do that, you need to know her language. its not confined within the world of alphabets. she speaks the language of Solfege. Start by the rules and as you master it, let go and play along with her. The notes can be dramatized to bring about maximum effect and you might just be able to make music if she likes the way you speak to her .... Godspeed! - Lesson 2

Give unto thee - for the love of someone who is a part of me ...

I have always loved musical instruments and wondered at how science and math can touch us deep down even with all its technicality intact. let me admit, that i have tried some musical instruments and none of them call to me and likewise. Violin was never on my mind, not for any particular reason, however, by some strange co incidence or signal i knew that , i was meant to learn just her - my violin. Lesson 1 : unlike vocal artists, the ones who pursue musical instruments have to first learn to give their body to the instrument. the journey to the soul is an advanced stage. take any instrument: the flute, the drums, the guitar and the violin - your body has to get used to it - the posture, the co ordination, the strain... as far as the violin is concerned.. its takes time to give in... once you get those basics right, usually on the same day, you learn the GDae [the chords/strings - don't know the difference yet, if there is one]. you learn how the bow glides, the arch, the straight...

Call

A sudden incident to someone very close woke me up today. Call: Change. Adapt. Learn. Live. Change : Nothing is permanent and nothing will ever be. We gain some, we lose a lot, and sometimes it is the other way round. Sometimes we change and sometimes it is the things around us. Sometimes we like the change and sometimes we do not. I don’t know how spiritual or religious the reader is, but any kind of change – [if it is sudden all the more so] is a sign that God or a higher power has chosen to take the reigns of our life in their hands for that one moment, and asked us to move on to the next level. Adapt : Courtesy – Ayan Da. “When Van Gogh first started out, his ten years of work got burnt. Van Gogh is still Van Gogh.” Courtesy – Me . “You can never accelerate if you keep looking into the rear view mirror.” Move on. There is no stopping to what has happened. The future will wait at your door only for a while and after a point that too, will get tired and move on. Yes! “...

No Touch no scratch ;)

if i am what you think i am  and if it makes you glad  then i am what you think i am  but if it makes you sad  then i could be what u think i am  and maybe a lil less maybe the good is less and the bad in excess if you think my name is bitch  or the girl with evil eyes then 'bitch' is good enough  and the evil eyes watches while u lie if you think i am an angel to the core  or the poor lil thing washed ashore  then my wings and halo are for you to see and may my charms make you forget abt me  of if you think i am just another one  no great shakes or ain't no fun  then i shall quietly exit through the doors and look apologetic when YOU ARE, on all fours then you'll wonder who  then who'll wonder why  then you'll try to fix and then you get it jinxed and then you'll come and ask  or maybe follow me around  maybe u'll even write a song  and tell me "oh!cmon" and just when you give up  I'll light my halo bright  bring the devil in my eyes flash...
What will it take for our country to wake up .. to wake up to terror to wake up to honesty ??.. most importantly to wake up to its poeple? How many Kandahars and how many Oberoi's do we have to endure for our country to learn its lesson of division, indecision and inefficiency? How many more politicians will thrive on our national economy to ensure that they can have a plush green backyard? How many more civilians/army men will have to lay their lives for a Godhra or Jamma Masjid? For how many more centuries should the people of India live in pseudo intelligence only to realise that it's only a big national joke? Our India today has no vision , no goals , no charecter. In the name of it's so called spirit it's raped and murdered everyday - sometimes in factions within itself and sometime by some other country. They come , they destroy and oh yes they die .. but indefatigably yet another troop comes - they come, they destroy and not just they ..we too die.. sometimes in ...

My Mantra's

1) How much people like you is directly proportional to how much they need you for their vested interests - it doesn’t matter if you are a nice person or otherwise, it doesn’t matter whether you are nice to them or not. 2) Happiness is solely dependent on how indifferent you are; to things around you and about you. 3) Never play one person against another - you'll only play yourself against them - refer to point one. 4) Don’t feel sad ; feel angry, not about people but about yourself - that you let it happen to yourself. 5) No one's indispensable. 6) There's always one person you can turn to, only one person who'll be there when you cry in the dark corners of the world, only one person Who’ll love u despite everything - that person is you [too bad that’s not enough] 7) Fight for what you believe in, in worst cases - you'll lose the battle, in all cases - you can proudly hold your head high for the simple reason that You didn’t submit to mediocrity, 8) Don’t try too ...
